Regarding Feb.25-28th

A quick recap on the last week before I continue with some posts about Vienna (oh, that's right...I went to Vienna this weekend.)

Last Monday was Marta's birthday so i wound up at Agnieszka's flat with 4 polish girls and one dutch girl and me. There were a few boys around but the overwhelming majority of girls convinced Bence, Aga's roommate, that they should throw an actual flat party on Thursday so that we girls would bring more of our girlfriends. After sampling a variety of unfortunate Hungarian wines (this was not our night with wine) we headed over the the staple Monday night venue--Morrison's.

The week continued to be amazingly warm, and on tuesday Amandine and I spent an hour and a half between classes out on some steps of the Danube bank...so nice! When I got home I had a facebook invite to...Vienna! As I had no plans for the weekend, this seemed like a good idea--a good idea that approximately 30 others shared! ( I have officially used too many exclamation points, I apologize). So Tuesday night at Szimpla we planned out Vienna, which mostly meant we agreed to give Michiel, the dutch guy who got the ball rolling, money for the train and the hostels and he did all the work. Many thanks Michiel!!! Oh, Sonya, i met Becky that night again.

Wednesday we went for dinner at a german guy's house (Michael)--but he has hungarian parents so he cooked a hungarian dish which was basically pasta with cottage cheese, but still pretty tasty. On the side were these excellent marinated yellow peppers stuffed with cabbage. A couple had also just visited Eger so they brought back wine--and so this was my first night having red while in Hungary. The famous Eger wine is called Egri Bikaver, 'Bull's Blood,' and it's pretty drinkable. It gets the name from a 16th century fight for the Eger fortress. The defenders drank a lot of wine to get prepared and it spilled down their shirts, and consequently the attackers thought that they were fighting barbarians who drank bull's blood and got scared.

The topics of conversation amongst these various 'international' evenings are rather amusing. Some examples: aluminum vs. glass containers; how bush was elected not just once but TWICE; bus vs. train travel; faking illnesses; european salaries; SLC Punk. I'm sure there were other random ones...

Thursday was spent doing all my homework for the weekend and getting ready for Vienna. At night we did stop by Aga and Bence's flat for their party, but poor Bence!--the males outnumbered the females 4:1.

Oh, one thing that I find interesting about BP---parking here is a very 'flexible' concept. Sidewalks, road islands, around an actual corner,--everywhere seems fair game.
